Resilience Building for Adults

This course is designed to increase resilience in adults.

Why is resilience important?

Resilience may be the single most important protective factor an individual can develop. Researchers have found it to have the following benefits:

  • Increases success
  • Improves relationships
  • Better health
  • Reduced risk of undesirable outcomes including suicide, drug and alcohol abuse, high school dropout, depression, divorce, and criminal behavior.
  • Reduce the negative impact of adverse events like the end of a romantic relationship, death of a loved one, loss of a job, and more by reducing recovery time.
  • Reduce the effects of adverse circumstances in every area of life
  • Provide examples your children will benefit from modeling

Resilience is composed of three learnable skills that affect every area of life. Participants will increase these skills and benefit from greater resilience in a fun learning environment.

This course is open to adults age 18 and above. There is a separate program for teens and young adults (ages 13 – 24). If we receive sufficient demand for a course for younger children it will be offered.

What does lack of resilience look like?Marital Programs

It looks like quitting when the going gets tough.

It looks like bringing difficult days at work home and allowing your family to suffer because you’re suffering.

Resilience is not taught in schools despite research demonstrating its positive effects.

When we are happy, we are nice to be around. Frustration, anger, resentment, confusion and other emotional states that are far less than happy and are indicators that the individual lacks the level of resilience needed to live the best possible life.  These emotional states negatively affect every area of life. They are indicators of stress. Stress causes negative physical, mental, and behavioral outcomes. The same skills that increase resilience reduce stress.

Stressed Man

The stressed individual is not taking good care of self, which means he or she is not able to do his or her best in any area of life. Life does not have to be this way. If it is, you’re settling for less than the best.

Settling leads to more problems. Relationships suffer. Your immune system does not work as well as it could. At first the effects are minor–stomach upset, headaches, more accidents, more arguments and hurt feelings. But if left untended, the situation worsens. At that point health and relationship issues get a lot worse and may include divorce and increased health problems.

Why do you do anything you do? Isn’t it to provide yourself and your family with the life you desire? If you’re not resilient you might as well be on a hamster wheel. Resilience is necessary for steady progress.

You deserve to know how to develop these skills and begin leading the life you’ve imagined. human thriving
